Mark McDonald is a doctoral candidate at McGill University’s Schulich School of Music in Montréal, where he studies organ and harpsichord performance with Hans-Ola Ericsson and Hank Knox, and where he teaches classes in Musicianship and Theory.

Originally from Burlington, Ontario, Mark earned a Bachelor of Music at Queen’s University with David Cameron, completing his Master of Music and Artist Diploma at McGill under John Grew. While in  Montréal, he has held appointments as Assistant Organist at the Church of Saint James the Apostle and Christ Church Cathedral. In 2012-13 he was a visiting scholar at the University of the Arts in Bremen, Germany, studying with Edoardo Bellotti, Hans Davidsson and Harald Vogel. In 2014 he returned to Montréal to become the newly-appointed College Organist at the Montréal Diocesan Theological College.

In August of 2014, Mark was one of the six finalists at the prestigious International Arp Schnitger Organ Competition in Bremen, and he came away with third prize. The competition is held in honour of the country’s most important Baroque Organ builder.
